OpenTelemetry Receiver

An OpenTelemetry Receiver platform collects telemetry pushed by instrumented agents. Use it for agents whose platform does not have a dedicated discovery connector.

Registration and telemetry

Configure the instrumented application to send authenticated OTLP traces to the receiver platform. Agent Management discovers observed services by their service.name attribute and creates service-wide inventory records. Agents can also be registered manually with a service name and, when needed, a service.instance.id.

A receiver does not use a platform connection to scan agents or periodically fetch source logs. Its backing datasets are built on the configured dataset-build schedule.

Supported capabilities

  • Inventory: agents discovered from received telemetry or registered manually can be enriched and managed in the inventory.

  • Interaction metrics and traces: derived from the telemetry received for the agent.

  • Tokens and cost: available when telemetry includes model identifiers and token usage, with matching model pricing configured.

  • Usage: conversation counts are supported when conversation identifiers are supplied.

Limitations

The receiver cannot discover source-platform configuration, models, or tools through a scan. Trace completeness depends on instrumentation and the attributes sent by the application.

Active-user metrics, separate platform-metric fetching, uptime tests, agent reviews through invocation, and platform enable or disable actions are unavailable.
